Amber Campbell-Moore (she/her)
Associate OrganizerAmber is no stranger to civic engagement, community organizing, and the pursuit of justice. As a child in New Mexico, she was inspired as she observed her mother advocating for young women in a community with a small population of Black families.
Now, Amber dedicates her time advocating for affordable housing - work that has led to the establishment of an Affordable Housing Trust Fund in Charleston County that will begin with more than $4 million dedicated to reasonably priced housing in the region. Amber, now a member of CAJM Congregation Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist, has also been informed by her faith.
“As a kid, I watched her always involved in our church and in the community, doing things with others and trying to make a difference,” she said. “I was inspired by my mother.”
Originally from Indianapolis, Amber Campbell-Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Coastal Carolina University in 2004. As one of the most distinguished student-athletes in the university’s history, she went on to qualify for the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympic Games in track and field.
After retiring from athletics, she served as the commencement speaker for the university in May 2017, where she received an honorary Doctorate of Science degree. In September, she began her career in public service, first as an organizational development coordinator and then as a research & development analyst for the City of Myrtle Beach. Amber is excited to organize with CAJM because it gives her the opportunity to work alongside others to create sustainable change in our community. Growing up in a home that encouraged civic engagement, being part of the solution to problems she encounters is part of who she is.
