NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Charleston Area Justice Ministry held its annual rally ahead of next month’s Nehemiah Action to discuss three urgent campaigns: food insecurity, environmental justice and school governance.

The ministry is arguing for more support for local food banks and nonprofits, and is working to protect Gadsden Creek and other tidal creeks. The ministry’s research team has met with local organizations including Trident United Way, the Lowcountry Food Bank and Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach.

The ministry is asking for transparency and accessibility from the Charleston County School Board.

“When we get together at the action, we’re gonna say: ‘public officials, you’re elected to hold these offices, and we want these things to be different in Charleston’ and ask community members to take better care of each other,” co-president of Charleston Area Justice Ministry Jared Hove said.

The 14th annual Nehemiah Action, or a meeting of faith leaders, will be held April 27 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in North Charleston.
